The assignment involved sticking anything onto then end of a bit of willow to form an "unconventional painter's tool". An exercise to just open ourselves into looking at everyday things in a different light and learning to experiment with new ways to achieve and artistic, creative response.
So, here come the "unconventional painter's tool"s:
Using each of these "menu of marks", we were then left to experiment the utilisation of each tool in drawing one of our tools:

So, after struggling with tools made of unconventional items (which I'm sure they're "unconventional" for a VERY good reason, but none the less interesting and fun to use), the whole tutorial culminated in some nice ink paintings:
