Look what I found

I found something really unique and interesting... and time wasting on teh internets

This monster here was created by me with some random algorithmic generation.

You make these "media creatures" and then have them battle each other. Seems like a fun way to market a procuct indeed.

Go on, click on that link, make your own and then battle my "media creatures" >:)

Sketchy Hasty Iota Tid-bits

I plan to get a scanner for Christmas. I'm sick of having to deal with the queues for scanners at school. But luckily I have bothered to scan some stuff from my sketchbooks. Do enjoy :D

First foray into video games development

I'm certain that any experienced coder out there or seasoned computer geek would be scoffing at my attempt here. For one thing, this was in the written tutorial wizard, so unless I was extremely thick and illiterate I would not have been able to pull this off. Yet, I still feel rather proud of this.

To download the game and play it, follow the link at the bottom of this post and simply download.

Game Maker was the software I used to make this. It has a free "Lite" version with a "Pro" version available for purchase. It's pretty damn simple as game making software goes as it has a "Simple Mode" so you don't have to type in code, but rather navigate menus and icons to achieve what you want.

If you think this looks complicated, don't. This is child's play compared to how games are REALLY made.

So the game looks like this when you open it. CLICK THEM FRUITS!

As time goes on, bombs start appear. Don't click on those if you don't want to blow up.

... more and more bombs appear. Damn that cherry is hard to catch.

gAAHhh!

Well, game over.

That last screenshot shows my current highscore of 1400. Feel free to beat that if the game keeps your interest long enough lol.

Reminds me of snow

Trawling through my files, I found that my "ART" folder contains over 35.6 GB of data of the stuff. It feels like a lot of stuff. Anyways, what I was meant to tell you today is that all this snow reminded me of the snow earlier this year, y'know back in January. I found these choice pics:

"Snowed around"

"Post box sees you..."

"POST BOX ANGR-EH!"

"Beloved Snow Bear/Owl"

Random Items

I was looking back at my blog and I realise that a lot of it is based on the occurences on at MMU. I suppose I did originally intend for it to be my MMU blog, however what I'm doing is not what they meant, they actually meant for me to keep it as a selective portfolio with carefully choiced pieces of works - but I digress.

Here, let me share with you some random pieces I have done over time (I suppose about within the last year):

SIGH #1

Hello hello :) welcome to my first Self Indescribably Guilty Hoopla.

Apologies for my online absence over the past month and a half. A lot's happened that I have not documented. This is very disorderly of me which I shall rectify over the course of the holidays and in my bid to never allow this to happen again.

So, as an act of good will, I wish to share with you something amusing I found whilst reading the latest issue of Creative Review:

Designed by the good people at Karmarama as part of their Karmaprojects (this particular design was seen at protests against the Iraq war).

f.y.i. I was up until 5am editing that all, and yes those voice overs were all (painfully) done by me.

MMU Drawing moving image

The final tutorial of the week consisted of drawing moving images. A projector was put up to display looping clips of video, most of which seemed to be library footage of particular things, from CCTV footage to documentary like shots.

The room was mostly dark for the duration of the exercise, but luckily I chose a spot close to the windows, which gave me a gleam of light on my easel. We were given the video clips on screen and then some 10-20 minutes to draw it out with all manners of materials, such as wax, pastels, crayons, paints, inks, pencil and felt tips.

clips no. 1, 2 and 3

clips no. 4, 5 and 6

3 moving portraits

clips no. 7 and 8
Here are some highlights:

from clip no. 2 - was resist with indian ink

from clip no. 4 - permanent marker pen

from clip no. 6 - acrylic paints

Overall, it was a pleasant, if tiring, experience of trying to draw things in motion as well as experimenting with more varied materials. I'm fairly used to drawing things that move thanks to my small sketches of people who sit at the table in front of me (I shall be uploading samples of these from my past sketch books in future), but I have to say that the short clips were really challenging as some movements were very quick and hard to take down before it looped again. Practice makes perfect and interesting results appear when you try to represent a motion, but end up with something else!

yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeess, something completely unrelated.
